Tractors rumbled in Kutztown High School’s parking lot May 30 for the traditional end of year Tractor Day.
Several agriculture students, wearing Tractor Day 2014 t-shirts, drove their tractors to school that day and a few brought their lawn tractors.
At the end of the school day, The Patriot talked to a few of the tractor drivers before they headed back home.
Kutztown junior Josh Miller drove his tractor with his girlfriend Becky Rabenold, sophomore, in the passenger seat.
‘It’s just really fun,’ said Miller. ‘It’s pretty cool.’
‘It’s a tradition that not a lot of other schools have, so it’s kinda unique,’ said Rabenold.
Kutztown junior Victoria Santangelo said ‘Tractor Day is a really good idea and it’s really fun. It teaches kids about agriculture.’
Eric Rabenold said driving his tractor to school is fun. ‘It seems like it has been a tradition here for a long time.’
He hopes people learn about tractors, ‘how they run, how we operate them.’
For junior Jacob Fairchild, Tractor Day is about having fun with his friends. ‘This is stuff that we use everyday, we farm with, it shows who we are and what we do.’
David Reiss, junior, said, ‘These guys here had to drive here on the road, took them about half an hour to 45 minutes to get here. Farmers have to do that to get to their fields.’
Kyle Lubak said Tractor Day is ‘good to do this for the community to show that we live in an agriculture area and to keep it alive.’
